MaxDownload Privacy Policy

MaxDownload is a Chrome extension that helps users save authorized media and manage downloads locally in Chrome. This policy describes the Chrome Web Store edition.

Information processed

After the user explicitly enables Media detection, MaxDownload may locally process media-resource URLs, limited response metadata (such as content type, range information and content length), the supported page/tab association needed to match media to the user's request, local download state, and extension settings.

For YouTube, the Chrome Web Store edition uses the current page URL to identify a video ID and retrieve a public thumbnail image. It does not provide YouTube video or audio downloading.

How information is used

Information is used only to detect media the user asks to save, start/manage downloads, show progress, locally merge compatible MP4 tracks, save thumbnails, and display recent download state.

Local processing and retention

MaxDownload does not send browsing activity, page content, captured media URLs, download history, or extension settings to a MaxDownload-operated server. It includes no analytics SDK and no advertising SDK.

Detected Instagram/Facebook media-resource entries are held transiently in extension memory and are aged out after approximately three minutes. Closing the tab removes its captured media state. Turning off Media detection clears transient captured Meta media state immediately.

Settings, consent, and recent MaxDownload job history are stored locally in Chrome extension storage until changed/cleared or the extension is uninstalled. Downloaded files and Chrome download records are handled by Chrome.

Sharing and sale

MaxDownload does not sell user data or share it with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics providers. The extension contacts supported websites/CDNs only as needed to perform the download or thumbnail action requested by the user.

User choice

Media detection is disabled until affirmative first-run consent. It can later be disabled in MaxDownload → Settings → Media detection, which also clears transient captured Meta media state.

Security

MaxDownload does not load remote executable JavaScript or WebAssembly code. Media inspection and compatible MP4 merging use code packaged with the extension.

Children's privacy

MaxDownload is a general-purpose browser utility and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect personal information on a developer-operated server.

Changes

If data practices materially change, this policy and Chrome Web Store disclosures should be updated before the changed behavior is released.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

MaxDownload's use of information received from Chrome APIs is limited to providing and improving its single user-facing purpose. MaxDownload does not use Chrome API data for personalized advertising, credit/lending decisions, or sale to data brokers.
